Yukon Journey donations, #4 of 7

The Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team, based out of Bessemer, Michigan, was the recipient of our fourth donation. The check was sent with a nod to Stormy Kromer, which is also headquartered in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Gogebic County SAR Team works under the authority of the sheriff’s department, and conducts land and water operations. The 14 volunteer members include firemen and former Coast Guard personnel, and have performed a number of kayak rescues in spring when the water is running fast. As paddlers who frequently travel to the Upper Peninsula, we’re happy to know they stand ready to help all outdoors enthusiasts.
The iconic Stormy Kromer was the official camp cap of the Yukon Journey Canoe and Kayak Charitable Expedition, something we’re very proud of. These hats are made with pride in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and stood up to everything the Yukon River threw at us. In fact, the Waxed Cotton Cruiser is now the far-and-away favorite “tripping hat” of expedition organizer John Van Barriger . He also took several other classic Kromers with him, as well as the Woolover jacket for cool evenings in camp.
